Dua Beranak Maut Dirempuh Lori

KOTA KINABALU: A man and his son were killed when the Perodua Kancil car they were travelling in collided with an eight-tonne lorry yesterday morning.

Ghani Mad, 69, and his son Roshemey Ghani, 34, were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

The impact caused the car to end up some 30 metres from the point of collision, which occurred at the Tuaran-Lintas traffic intersection around 6.15am.

It is believed that the victims were on their way to Tuaran from Kolombong when the lorry driver, who was heading towards Luyang from Tuaran, lost control of his vehicle.

The lorry driver only suffered minor injury.

Due to the impact, both victims were pinned to their seats but were extricated by Fire and Rescue Services personnel and the Civil Defence Department personnel who were at the scene.

Both father and son were immediately sent to the hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, acting city police chief Deputy Superintendent Peter Anak Umbuas, when contacted yesterday, said police were still carrying out an investigation into the accident.

“Initial police investigation reveals that the lorry driver had lost control of the vehicle and had knocked into the Kancil.

“Police are still carrying out investigation including taking down the statement from the lorry driver,” he said.
