BUKIT MERAH – Hasrat sebuah keluarga meraikan kejayaan salah ahli keluarganya yang berjaya melanjutkan pengajian ke Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) bertukar tragedi selepas kenderaan yang dinaiki mereka terlibat dalam kemalangan.
Kemalangan itu menyebabkan tiga maut manakala lapan lagi penumpang cedera apabila van persiaran yang dinaiki keluarga berkenaan terbabas di kilometer 186.6 Lebuh Raya Utara Selatan dekat Bukit Merah sekitar jam 5.40 pagi semalam.
Ketua Polis Daerah Kerian, Superintendan Mat Fauzi Nayan berkata, pihaknya mengesahkan kejadian yang melibatkan sebuah van persiaran dari Muar, Johor menuju ke Kedah untuk menghantar anggota keluarga mereka iaitu Nur Syuhaila Mohd Jamil, 19, yang akan mendaftar di hari pertama kemasukan UUM sebelum melanggar tembok berhampiran dan terjunam ke dalam parit.
Menurutnya, tiga mangsa yang maut di tempat kejadian ialah pemandu van, Chua Wee Chaur, 33, ibu Nur Syuhaila, Tukijah Esa, 59, dan kakaknya Norruhanizah Mohd Jamil, 34.
Sementara itu, tiga lagi mangsa mengalami kecederaan kritikal dan dihantar ke hospital Taiping ialah bapa kepada Nur Syuhaila iaitu Mohd Jamil @ Mohd Yammi Anuar, 68; abang Syuhaila, Mohd Nazir Mohd Jamil, 29, serta seorang bayi Alia Madiwa berusia 7 bulan setengah yang juga anak kepada Norruhanizah.
“Selain itu lima lagi mangsa yang cedera ringan dirawat di Hospital Parit Buntar termasuk Nur Syuhaila iaitu anak bongsu kepada Mohd Jamil.
“Mangsa yang lain ialah abangnya, Muhammad Faiduz, 27, patah kaki kanan termasuk dua abang iparnya Khairul Khafiza Isnin, 29, dan Mustafa Kamal Md Khairul, 38, serta kakak ipar, Liana Mat, 31,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan kepada media, semalam.
Mat Fauzi berkata, ketika kejadian, van persiaran itu membawa 10 ahli keluarga untuk menghantar Nur Syuhaila yang bakal mendaftar masuk di UUM pada hari pertama.
“Namun hajat itu tidak kesampaian apabila pemandu van gagal mengawal kenderaan sebelum terbabas dan terjunam dalam parit di kawasan Bukit Merah awal pagi tadi (semalam),” katanya.
Three killed in van crash
PARIT BUNTAR: It was supposed to be a joyous day for Nurshahila Mohd Jamil who was on her way to register at Universiti Utara Malaysia in Sintok, Kedah.
It turned tragic for the 19-year-old from Muar, Johor, when the chartered van carrying her and nine other family members skidded and crashed into a ditch along the North-South Expressway after the Bukit Merah Toll Plaza yesterday.
Three people were killed including Nurshahila's mother Tukijah Esa, 59, her elder sister Norruhanizah, 34, and van driver Chua Wee Chaur, 33.
Krian OCPD Supt Mat Fauzi Nayan said the van driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle in the 5.40am accident.
“Tukijah, Norruhanizah and Chua were killed on the spot due to severe head and body injuries.
“Their bodies were sent to Parit Buntar Hospital for post-mortem,” he said here yesterday.
Supt Mat Fauzi said Nurshahila's father Mohd Jamil Anuar, 68, her elder brother Mohd Nazir, 29, and her niece Aliya Madiha Abdullah, seven months, who is also the daughter of Norruhanizah, were injured and sent to Taiping Hospital for treatment.
He said Nurshahila was slightly injured, as was another elder brother Mohd Fairuz, 27, brother-in-law Mustafa Kamal Mohd Khamis, 38, sister-in-law Khairul Khafiza Isnin, 29, and Liana Mat, 31.
”All of them were treated at the Parit Buntar Hospital,” he said.
Supt Mat Fauzi added that the van left Muar at 10pm on Tuesday with no co-driver.
