4 Maut Pertembungan Toyota Hilux dan Nissan Sunny
LAHAD DATU: “Masih terngiang-ngiang kata-katanya yang tidak sabar mahu menyambut Aidilfitri bersama saya dan sepupu lain di rumah saya, tapi hari ini (semalam) saya hanya dapat menatap jasadnya yang kaku.”
Demikian kata Boni Alkan, 40, sepupu kepada Kempoh Asari, 39, yang maut dalam kemalangan ngeri apabila kenderaan dinaikinya bersama seorang anak dan tiga sepupunya berlanggar dengan Toyota Hilux di Kilometer 24, Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan di sini, semalam.
Selain Kempoh, turut maut dalam kejadian kira-kira jam 8 pagi itu pemandu kereta, Abu Halil Esdari, 56, dan dua penumpang dikenali Noor Muhamad Sapiulla, 41, dan Sajid Asin, 30.
Anak Kempoh, Amirkan, 20-an, parah di kepala dan dirawat di Hospital Duchess of Kent di Sandakan.
Pemandu serta seorang penumpang Toyota Hilux terbabit hanya cedera ringan. Identiti mereka belum dikenal pasti.
Boni berkata, dia terkejut apabila menerima panggilan daripada polis memaklumkan ahli keluarganya dari Sandakan dan dalam perjalanan ke daerah ini terbabit dalam kemalangan dan memintanya segera ke Hospital Lahad Datu.
Menurutnya, perasaan pilu tidak dapat disembunyikan apabila melihat wajah Kempoh terbujur kaku bersama tiga lagi sepupu. “Saya tidak menyangka kehadiran semua mereka ke sini bagi menyambut Aidilfitri bersama, berakhir dengan tragedi yang sungguh menyedihkan,” katanya ketika ditemui Harian Metro di pekarangan Hospital Lahad Datu di sini, semalam.
Sementara itu, Pemangku Ketua Polis Daerah Lahad Datu, Asisten Superintendan Bong Kwet Khiun berkata, dalam kemalangan itu pemandu dan penumpang kenderaan pacuan empat roda terbabit hanya cedera ringan.
“Siasatan mendapati kereta Nissan Sunny dinaiki mangsa cuba memotong sebuah van di depan sebelum hilang kawalan dan bertembung pacuan empat roda dari arah bertentangan.
“Impak pelanggaran itu, kenderaan dinaiki mangsa remuk teruk, malah empat daripada mereka tersepit dan maut di tempat kejadian, manakala seorang lagi yang parah berjaya dikeluarkan orang ramai.
“Anggota bomba dan penyelamat yang tiba di lokasi kejadian mengeluarkan mangsa yang tersepit dan mereka disahkan meninggal dunia di tempat kejadian akibat parah di kepala dan anggota badan lain,” katanya ketika dihubungi, semalam.
Beliau berkata, semua mayat dihantar ke Hospital Lahad Datu untuk dibedah siasat dan kes disiasat mengikut Seksyen 41 (1), Akta Pengangkutan Jalan 1987
KOTA KINABALU: Four relatives were killed while another was seriously injured when a car they were travelling in collided with a four-wheel-drive at Km24 of Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan at 6.30am yesterday.
The victims were identified as driver Abu Halil Esdari, 56, Noormuhamad Sapiulla, 41, Kempoh Asari and Sajid Asin, both in their 30s.
Another relative, Amirkha Kempoh, was seriously wounded.
Acting district police chief Assistant Superintendent Bong Kwet Khiun said the four men were heading towards Lahad Datu from Sandakan when the accident happened.
"They were tailing a van and the driver tried to overtake it but crashed into an oncoming four-wheel drive."
Bong said the Fire and Rescue Department staff extricated the victims from the mangled wreck.
He added that the two people in the four-wheel-drive escaped with minor injuries.
In another incident, motorcyclist Jumri Zulkifli, 17, succumbed to head injuries after crashing into a lamp post in Tanjung Aru at 2.15am yesterday.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said Jumri's friend, Wira Rudad, 19, who was riding pillion, was also seriously wounded in the accident.
He is in a critical condition at Queen Elizabeth Hospital's intensive care unit.
"Initial investigations showed that Jumri lost control of his motorcycle during a downpour near the Tanjung Aru traffic-light junction before hitting the lamp post," Ahmad Sofi said.
Therefore, we are seeking public cooperation. Anybody who witnessed the incident may contact Inspector Kharri at 088-310273," he said.
